Harry J. Ondich
Harry bowled in sanctioned league play since 1951. At that time, he carried an average in the high 180's. Harry was a member of the Southeast Merchant's League on Thursday evenings starting at Nick's Bowl, Bryant Lake Bowl, Lowery Lanes and finally at Rainbow Lanes. One night a week did not seem like enough bowling, so Harry joined another league on Tuesday night. This league started at St. Anthony Lanes and subsequently moved to North Bowlero Bowl. Harry continued to bowl two-nights a week until the age of 83 when he dropped the Tuesday night league to concentrate on Thursday. He bowled faithfully until his death at age 87. Harry had also been on several championship teams over the years. He participated in many city and state bowling events. Harry was a great mentor of the sport. He encouraged his sons, grandchildren and their friends to become involved in sanctioned leagues. He was a very positive influence on many bowlers. Case in point, the Thursday Night Twilight League at Village North Bowl honored Harry by appointing him honorary president by an overwhelming margin.
