Sophie M. Almer

Sophie says when she started bowling in 1939 there were only 500 women in organized bowling in 15 leagues in the City. Sophie has held many positions in the national and local associations. She served the Minneapolis Women's Bowling Association (MWBA) as President for 10 years and Vice President for two years and as a Director for many years. She assisted with the state and local tournaments for the past 17 years. In addition, she was very involved with scorekeeping duties for all facets of tournament activity. She was a member of the Minnesota State Bowling Council for ten years. Sophie attended the WIBC National Convention for 32 years and she participated in 34 WIBC National Tournaments. Locally she participated in 37 Minnesota State Tournaments, 40 Minneapolis City Tournaments and 40 annual meetings. She worked diligently to get the National WIBC Tournament and Convention to the Twin Cities in 1964. Furthermore, she worked endless hours at both once it was here. She is a life member of the Minneapolis Women's Bowling Association (MWBA).
